COLOR SCHEME:

matte black, high gloss black, off white,

brass, taupe, and hits of burgundy

TEXTURES:

leather, linen, latex, metals,

feathers, spikes, wood, wax

FEATHERS...This long feathered bird is my favorite edition to the table this year. It may not be the obvious choice for Halloween decor, but it adds a fun steampunk/taxidermy type look the collection. These feathered friends are intended to be Christmas ornaments which means they have a clip at the foot so you can put them anywhere. They can also be used as a napkin ring or place card holder. Pictured here, it sits nicely atop a small pumpkin and I recommend scattering them at random. Added bonus, they can be repurposed for a Thangsgiving tablescape and then on to the tree for Christmas! PS. they are also on sale at Z Gallerie! Feather Bird $3.99 https://www.zgallerie.com/p-19363-feather-bird.aspx

LEATHER...a few yards of faux leather ribbon from a local fabric store make excellent napkin rings. Leave a little excess to drape on the table for a moody effect. LINEN...while you are at the fabric store, order a couple yards of black linen for a gauzy tablecloth. Save on ironing time and leave it bunching and the ends frayed. Splurge on linen napkins that you would use year round and save on the tablecloth that you will probably only use once a year.

DRINKS...black martini glasses will not only add to the monochrome look but will also save time on creating fall cocktails for your guests...a classic martini will look just as spooky as a flavored. A little plastic spider ring makes for a great accessory or spray paint in different color metallics for a disposable drink marker!   BLACK...as a superfan of spray paint, I used both flat and gloss to spray anything from pumpkins to apples to pineapples to complete the monochrome statement.

MASKED...I like to use masquerade masks as table decor scattered around for guests to try on if they are feeling naughty! Also doubles a last minute costume for anyone who arrives without! BRASS...I love this brass candelabra from Crate & Barrel. It allows you to drape the linen or fill with pumpkins or flowers so easily. Bonus: it's on super sale right now for only $24.95! Looks great with or without tapers in it.

BURGANDY...instead of using the usual suspect (orange) go for an unexpected pop of color for DIa de los Muertos look and add burgundy flowers to your tablescape. I use faux peonies here but will opt for the real thing the day of the party! Other options include burgundy hydrangea, dahlia's, and ranunculus. A lower cost option would be classic dried red roses.   SKULLS...to add a halloween print, I decided to layer paper goods with my ceramics. There are so many fun cocktail napkins and paper plates out there for this once a year event that you can buy in bulk and have a affordable plate for your guests appetizers, desserts, or small plates. And disposable equals less clean up! Save the real stuff for the actual dinner. SPIKED...not just the punch but adding spikes to a pumpkin then covering with a layer of high gloss black spray paint makes for an edgy addition. This particular pumpkin is from everyones fave place, Target. You might ask why I opted to paint over it since it has some pretty neat hardware, but up close it looks just a little inexpensive and this really gives it a cool latex look that you can't buy in the store.   Studded Pumpkin $5 https://www.target.com/p/halloween-studded-pumpkin-small-black-hyde-and-eek-boutique-153/-/A-52313397#lnk=sametab

DESSERT...I just die for these black praise macaroons and so will everyone at your party! I found this recipe on Eye Swoon, but I will personally be scouring LA to find these since I am not much of a baker! If you are up to the baking challenge here it is: http://eye-swoon.com/recipes/black-praline-macarons/

MORE DRINKS...using your leather form the napkins rings, wrap around liquor bottles in a corset like fashion. Choose bottles that coordinate with your table so they can be left out and moved around! But only opt for the good stuff like this perfect bottle of Hendricks Gin. BRASS...antique keys are a great table sprinkle and I will be "sprinkling" them everywhere this year! Easy to find a mixed bag on Amazon and these have so many diy possibilities. Add a suede cord to the ends, use as placecard holders or napkin rings, surround a candle in a glass candelabra, or even use for a fun game for your guests...maybe everyone gets a key at the door and you have to find your match?!   WHITE PUMPKINS...they work with all types of decor and for both Halloween and Thanksgiving. If I can give you any advice it would be to buy these early in the season! Trust me, you will want them! Trust me they sell out fast! (probably because people like me buy them in bulk!!) Adding a couple to your grocery stop at Whole Foods is not enough, buy a whole basket worth!

CREEPY CRAWLERS...break out the spray paint again and gild your beetles and bugs! Place the smaller sized in inconspicuous places for your guests to find throughout the evening.

HIGH GLOSS BLACK...I love to repurpose my everyday serving and decor for holidays versus buying all new. For those of us in the city with limited storage, this can be a necessity. I was so luck to find these black coral salad servers in the Hamptons at my favorite flower and gift shop, Flowers by Rori. I used them all summer and now can turn them into creepy branch servers for Halloween! The high gloss coordinates with the spray paint pumpkins just perfectly.

franklinAve brings

small space design solutions

to Los Angeles

modern, minimal, functional and beautiful spaces

LOS ANGELES, Calif., [May 1, 2017] –With housing prices on the rise, the emerging trend of small-space living is as popular as ever. Renters are experiencing an abundance of options in the city, but many with limited square footage. franklinAve is a newly formed company from LA-based designer and artist Kristy Degina that assists with space-planning challenges and provides storage solutions for any size home.

One of the first design websites that offers upfront pricing online for services, franklinAve works with what you already own and within the budget of your choice to add, edit, rearrange and organize. An in home consultation will determine the needs of the space. Multiple other services are available, from floor planning, furniture sourcing, painting, and more. Visit "https://franklinave.space/services" for details and pricing.

“There are multiple reasons people opt for smaller square footage, whether it’s to save money or just a choice to live a more minimalist lifestyle,” says Kristy. “As a small-space resident myself, I realized there was a niche for those who desire all of the amenities of a new complex, but opt for a smaller space.  My goal with franklinAve is to bring affordable design to those challenged with their small space”

With more than 15 years of experience in New York and Los Angeles, Kristy is an expert in maximizing space to be as functional as it is beautiful. She works in all contemporary styles including modern, industrial, mid-century, transitional and more. She personally meets with you for the in-home consultation and is there every step of the way during the design process, no matter how big or small. Previous clients have deemed their experience with her professional, inspiring and exciting.

As an artist, Kristy has sold hundreds of custom pieces, and is introducing her first series of exclusive collections available for purchase at "https://franklinave.space/modern-art/". She is a mixed media artist influenced by a combination of street art and abstract art. Contrary to popular belief, larger pieces of both furniture and art actually enhance a small space. Commission a piece of larger-scale custom art by visiting "https://franklinave.space/art/". All of the art is signed, dated, one of a kind and not reproduced for print.

For more information about franklinAve, visit "https://franklinave.space/".
