Top Home Area Rug Trends of 2023
As we move into the new year, we will see certain home and interior design trends that will continue from 2022 into 2023. Last year we began transitioning from lighter, solid color rugs as they started showing wear quickly if in high traffic areas. This year we will see more stripes, patterns, abstract shapes, and new neutrals that are more forgiving…and more fun! Performance fabrics will also continue to grow in popularity as rugs made of recycled materials are not only eco-friendly, but will also stand the test of time.
1. Striped Area Rugs Still Going Strong
Stripes of all sizes will continue strong on floor coverings. Whether all lined up or asymmetrical in pattern, both bold and skinny stripes are still making a statement. Stripes against lighter colors make the entire textile more forgiving of traffic and wear and tear. The most trending stripe we have seen year after year is black on a neutral, cream, or ivory rug. They have personality and style, bring interest to any space, and work in many different style homes.
2. New Patterns and More Abstract Shapes
Similar to stripes, more unique patterns and abstract shapes will be popping up more and more in 2023. For the neutral aesthetic, a pattern allows us to achieve look without the high maintenance of a lighter rug. For those looking to infuse more color into their home through textiles, there is a wider assortment in multi-colored abstract shapes popping up. The patterns can also be textural and multi-dimensional for extra personality and that extra personality can better conceal daily use. Have fun with these rugs and go bold!
3. New Neutrals and Mid-Range Tones Prevail
While white, ivory, and cream have proven to be beautiful, but high maintenance (even sometimes with performance fabrics), black and darker colored rugs are equally challenging regarding up keep (think lots of lint and frequent vacuuming required). So the best solution for high traffic areas will be new neutrals in grey, taupe, and light brown. The more dimensional the better to conceal every day wear and tear and you can still achieve a natural look in these tones. Unless you are a no-shoe, no-pet, no-kids household, this color and style rug may be for you.
4. Eco-Friendly, Easy Care Area Rugs
Looking for something low maintenance AND eco-friendly? Look no further, recycled PET is a soft and sustainable fiber that give rugs the look and feel of wool, but is highly durable and easily cleaned. Plastic bottles are recycled and processed into PET, a sustainable plastic fiber, which goes into making our wide selection of PET rugs. Added benefits of rugs made of recycled materials are easy-care, stain resistance and outdoor safe. These rugs are being used both indoors and outdoors and perfect for high traffic areas.
5. Natural Jute Area Rugs Joining all Style Homes
Natural elements have been a strong trend in home for 2022 and will continue into 2023. Jute rugs are a timeless style (especially in coastal areas) but have been gaining traction as many of us are looking to bring the outdoors in this year. Other benefits of natural jute? This material is sustainable, biodegradable, durable, and affordable. You can’t go wrong with a jute rug as this style works in many style homes. And since mixed materials and mixed media is also trending for 2023, this is a great option for layering to achieve the look.
6. Marbled Rugs are Tres Chic
Marbled rugs are already our most requested design of the new year. This particular rug is a viscose and wool blend rug that is perfect for a contemporary home. The neutral swirl in a marble like pattern with subtle a hint of mustard makes this rug a franklinAve.space favorite. We are bringing this rug to you in many different sizes, including runners and round sizing, to meet all of your needs. The pattern makes this rug manageable for higher traffic areas while still maintaining a lighter look. Perfect for the neutral aesthetic and the trend-forward. Tres chic indeed.
6. Transitional Area Rugs Continue to Evolve
Transitional rugs combine the best of both traditional and contemporary styles. They draw inspiration from the classic designs of traditional floor coverings and combine them with fashion-forward designs and color schemes from contemporary offerings. Transitional design balances luxury with comfort, masculine with feminine, and antiques with new pieces. As 2022 has proven that we love a balance of new and old, transitional rugs will fit right in every time.
