ORC Week 2: DIY Art Deco Fireplace Mantle

I met a new friend on the FB marketpalce and the offered me a really cool stone fireplace mantle that they couldn’t sell [for free]! It is really nice, but was a bit too low for my tall ceilings. So I thought that this would be a fun excuse to challenge myself to build out the mantle and make it more grande! This way it would fit better to scale with the rest of my [oversized] furniture and tall ceilings. Note: all of this diy is for a FAUX fireplace, but you could alter it to put a real insert inside (at a higher budget of course!) Most of my materials were either free, pre-owned, or of very low cost….but I will give you estimates below!

The Cost:

  • Cast Mantle: $100 (used)

  • Pavers: $1 each (I used 15 for lift)

  • Paint: $20 Behr Milk Paint in Black

  • 2x4’s: $18 each (I used two and cut to size for a recessed “frame”)

  • Ceramic Fire Balls $90

  • Tile $40 (7sq ft of tile on plywood sheet)

  • TOTAL: $300
