FEATHERS...This long feathered bird is my favorite edition to the table this year. It may not be the obvious choice for Halloween decor, but it adds a fun steampunk/taxidermy type look the collection. These feathered friends are intended to be Christmas ornaments which means they have a clip at the foot so you can put them anywhere. They can also be used as a napkin ring or place card holder. Pictured here, it sits nicely atop a small pumpkin and I recommend scattering them at random. Added bonus, they can be repurposed for a Thangsgiving tablescape and then on to the tree for Christmas! PS. they are also on sale at Z Gallerie!

LINEN...while you are at the fabric store, order a couple yards of black linen for a gauzy tablecloth. Save on ironing time and leave it bunching and the ends frayed. Splurge on linen napkins that you would use year round and save on the tablecloth that you will probably only use once a year.

DRINKS...black martini glasses will not only add to the monochrome look but will also save time on creating fall cocktails for your guests...a classic martini will look just as spooky as a flavored. A little plastic spider ring makes for a great accessory or spray paint in different color metallics for a disposable drink marker!

BLACK...as a superfan of spray paint, I used both flat and gloss to spray anything from pumpkins to apples to pineapples to complete the monochrome statement.

BRASS...I love this brass candelabra from Crate & Barrel. It allows you to drape the linen or fill with pumpkins or flowers so easily. Bonus: it's on super sale right now for only $24.95! Looks great with or without tapers in it.

BURGANDY...instead of using the usual suspect (orange) go for an unexpected pop of color for DIa de los Muertos look and add burgundy flowers to your tablescape. I use faux peonies here but will opt for the real thing the day of the party! Other options include burgundy hydrangea, dahlia's, and ranunculus. A lower cost option would be classic dried red roses.

SKULLS...to add a halloween print, I decided to layer paper goods with my ceramics. There are so many fun cocktail napkins and paper plates out there for this once a year event that you can buy in bulk and have a affordable plate for your guests appetizers, desserts, or small plates. And disposable equals less clean up! Save the real stuff for the actual dinner.

SPIKED...not just the punch but adding spikes to a pumpkin then covering with a layer of high gloss black spray paint makes for an edgy addition. This particular pumpkin is from everyones fave place, Target. You might ask why I opted to paint over it since it has some pretty neat hardware, but up close it looks just a little inexpensive and this really gives it a cool latex look that you can't buy in the store.

DESSERT...I just die for these black praise macaroons and so will everyone at your party! I found this recipe on Eye Swoon, but I will personally be scouring LA to find these since I am not much of a baker! If you are up to the baking challenge here…

BRASS...antique keys are a great table sprinkle and I will be "sprinkling" them everywhere this year! Easy to find a mixed bag on Amazon and these have so many diy possibilities. Add a suede cord to the ends, use as placecard holders or napkin rings, surround a candle in a glass candelabra, or even use for a fun game for your guests...maybe everyone gets a key at the door and you have to find your match?!

WHITE PUMPKINS...they work with all types of decor and for both Halloween and Thanksgiving. If I can give you any advice it would be to buy these early in the season! Trust me, you will want them! Trust me they sell out fast! (probably because people like me buy them in bulk!!) Adding a couple to your grocery stop at Whole Foods is not enough, buy a whole basket worth!

CREEPY CRAWLERS...break out the spray paint again and gild your beetles and bugs! Place the smaller sized in inconspicuous places for your guests to find throughout the evening.

HIGH GLOSS BLACK...I love to repurpose my everyday serving and decor for holidays versus buying all new. For those of us in the city with limited storage, this can be a necessity. I was so luck to find these black coral salad servers in the Hamptons at my favorite flower and gift shop, Flowers by Rori. I used them all summer and now can turn them into creepy branch servers for Halloween! The high gloss coordinates with the spray paint pumpkins just perfectly.

HAVE A SPECTAKULAR SPOOKY SOIREE!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN from FRANKLINAVE!
